Google’s $340 Million Ad Credits for SMBs

In March of this year, Google announced that they are pledging $340 million in Google Ads credits for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) due to Covid-19.

According to Google, those who have been active advertisers since the beginning of 2019 will see a credit notification appear in their Google Ads account. This is part of a broader commitment to support SMBs, health organizations, governments, and health workers on the frontline.

“Is My Business Eligible?” and Other Things You Should Know

Who is Eligible for Ad Credits?

Google has a global team that identifies and caters to the needs of SMBs around the world.

Small and medium-sized businesses globally are eligible for ad credits if the business has:

  • Spent money on a Google Ads account for ten out of twelve months of 2019 and in January and/or February of 2020.
    Directly advertised with Google.
Advertised through a third party partner in adherence to Google’s ad policies.

Fortunately, there is no application process or action to take. Ad credits are automatically applied to Google Ads. However, these ad credits are non-transferable, nor can they be split or refunded.

How Much is the Ad Credit?

While there is no published formula for the amount a customer can receive, the ad credit amount will be based on the previous Google Ads spend, the currency of your Google Ads account, and your billing address.

Considering this, each eligible customer may receive a credit amounting to a maximum of what is equivalent to USD 1,000.

How Does Ad Credit Work?

Google ad credits apply to future spending, not to any ads spent before receiving the credit. This applies to Google Ads platforms, including Search, YouTube, Display, and other campaign types.

Ad credits will be applied automatically. You will receive a notification email on your primary account. Eligible customers may see their applied credit on the “Promotions” page of their Google Ads account.

This ad credit can be used throughout the year and must be used by December 31, 2020. Any credits unused after December 31, 2020, will be expired and removed from your Google Ads account.

Smart Ideas on How to Put Your Google Ad Credits to Good Use

Girl asking the store clerk about the product - Tips on How to Put Your Google Ad Credits to Good Use | Google Advertising Credits for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

There are several platforms where you can use your Google Ad credits. Your ads may appear on websites, displays, and other campaign types.

You have nothing to lose when you use these ad credits, but this is an opportunity to put them in the most strategic and advantageous way possible. These are some of the ways you can use your Google ad credits:

Remarketing Campaigns

In essence, remarketing campaign ads are shown to people who have already seen your website.

These viewers may have already taken action or benefited from your product or services. Therefore, since these potential customers were already interested, remarketing campaigns have a higher probability of driving more sales.

Display Advertising

Display ads that appear on sites relevant to your brand. These ads can help you promote your business when people are browsing online, using mobile devices and apps, checking email, or watching YouTube videos. Display advertising may be appropriate if you are trying to build up brand awareness and get site visitors through impressions.

Location-based Marketing

This type of campaign is best for local businesses that target specific demographics. Through location targeting, you can focus on your ads to help find the right customers for your business.

With Google Ads location targeting, you can choose the geographic location where your ads appear. For instance, countries, cities, or a radius around a location. You may also set up for location groups, which can include your business area and places of interest.

Even if you choose to use them, your ad credits can help your business’ marketing efforts amidst COVID-19 and when businesses start to operate back to normal.

Google Ads for Google Maps Listings

Given that ads may suit specific platforms better than others, Google Maps listing is one to be considered. Often, especially for SMBs, Google Maps listings convert better than the websites on the first page of Search Engine Results Pages (SERP).

If your main effort is to convert impressions and search traffic into foot traffic, take advantage of Google My Business and Google Maps listings.

Google Maps makes your listings and ads more visible. If used correctly, Google Maps can play a significant role in your digital marketing strategy. Needless to say, this is vital for larger companies, even more so for smaller businesses.

If you haven’t tried this before, we highly recommend creating campaigns that drive new eyes to your Maps listings. If you have questions on this, feel free to reach out.

Let us help you manage your ads and listings. Locl helps millions of businesses drive billions in additional revs and bring clarity to a messy marketing world. We use Google My Business and Google Maps to help drive more customers to your door.

Businesses can sign up for Locl for free with their Google My Business account, no credit card needed, and start using it right away. Click here to start.
